The Impact of President Trump's Travel Ban on the Industry

On January 27, President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order (EO) on U.S. visa and refugee policies.  As you may know, this EO suspends entry of individuals from 7 named countries for 90 days, suspends entry of refugees from any country for 120 days, and directs a wide-ranging review of international travel, visa, refugee, and homeland security policies to be conducted by the Homeland Security Department, State Department, and Director of National Intelligence. AHLA is working closely with U.S. Travel and other trade associations to convey our concerns to Congress and the Administration, and offer the hotel industry’s expertise as a constructive resource as the policy reviews move forward.

Earlier this week, Secretary of Homeland Security, John Kelly, testified in front of the House Committee on Homeland Security. During the hearing, Secretary Kelly acknowledged that he should have delayed the implementation of the order so that members of Congress could have been informed.
