Strong Turnout at LAS

WASHINGTON D.C. (May 24, 2017) - On the heels of our third successful Legislative Action Summit (LAS) with our partners, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), we continue to move the needle in Washington, D.C. and in Congressional districts across the country. Nearly 500 hoteliers from coast to coast descended on Capitol Hill and held some 250 meetings with congressional leaders to advocate for policies that encourage travel and tourism promotion, business growth, and entrepreneurial opportunities, as well as urging more transparency on the rise of commercial activity fostered by short-term rental platforms and protecting consumers from online hotel booking scams.

In fact, we are so pleased to break the news that just prior to the event the Stop Online Booking Scams Act of 2017 (S.1164/H.R.2495), which would protect consumers from online hotel booking scams, was introduced in both the House and the Senate on opening day of LAS! Original cosponsors include U.S. Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Lois Frankel (D-FL) and Peter Welch (D-VT). Check out the Facebook Live video of Senator Daines officially introducing the legislation on the Senate floor with his constituent and AHLA member, Steve Warhlich, and read our press release applauding the bipartisan, bicameral introduction of the bill HERE

In the coming days and weeks, we need to keep up the momentum to move this bill through the legislative process, so please click HERE to contact your Member of Congress to urge them to cosponsor this important legislation.
