Over the past few days, we have been monitoring the rapidly evolving situation regarding the Omicron variant originating in South Africa. Of note, the World Health Organization (WHO) deemed Omicron a ‘variant of concern’ based on preliminary findings that suggest large number of mutations and high risk of reinfection rates. As a result of this new variant, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas has imposed travel restrictions from southern Africa.
At this time, it is not known how effective the current vaccines are in protecting individuals from the Omicron variant. AHLA will continue to monitor guidance from public health organizations and update the Safe Stay Guidelines accordingly to ensure the safety of our employees and guests. As we navigate this new development, we encourage everyone to practice proven safety protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including physical distancing, wearing face coverings, properly ventilating indoor spaces, avoiding crowded spaces, and getting vaccinated.
